Our Advice on Flea Prevention
To help keep these pests away, we recommend:
- Keeping your lawn and landscape mowed and debris free
- Treating your animals regularly with vet-approved on-pet products
- Treating your lawn and any other spaces your animals use (this helps deter adult fleas from staying in that area, decreasing the chances of a household pet picking up these pests)
Feral cats and varmints (which include rodents, such as mice, rats, rabbits, and squirrels) are the two primary sources for the introduction of a flea problem into a home lawn. This is where the household dog or cat will pick up adult fleas.
Flea eggs are extremely hard to control, and we rely on the life stages following the egg to gain most of the control. Therefore, we also recommend vacuuming as part of our post-treatment protocol to help the sticky flea eggs hatch. The vacuum creates the needed floor vibration to stimulate egg hatching.
